BIG DEAL STUDIO3 ARTS - I'M NOT SLIPPIN I'M JUST LIVIN SHOW

Big deal and Studio arts 3 presented a wonderful show called 'I'm not slippin I'm just livin' with a bag of talents with no boundaries what so ever. This was held at The Broadway in Barking on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th October 2011 at 7.30.

Liza had given me a wonderful opportunity to help out back stage with all the performers, while being backstage I was able to meet all the performers which was very nice. Being backstage I had an insight on how the sound effects worked, how special effects worked and how the performers had prepared themselves for their next acts etc.

I really liked the fact that the audience was not only just for children and young adults but also adults which was very good to know that people from other areas had heard about the show and were willing to come and watch the talents that were being offered out to the audience.

The main message for the 'I'm not slippin I'm jus livin' show was to make people aware about what goes on around us such as the riots etc and how it hasn't only just affected society on its own but also individuals as well however they still have to go about their daily lives. This was really good to see because even though they are stereotyped they still had and have the courage to be bold and say that even though other youths may be ruining our society we are trying to make it better so please don't see us as a whole. Many youths today have been accused and knocked down by the stories produced by the media giving them a bad name.

Before seeing the show I was not aware about the main reasons for the show. When watching the show I started to gain an understanding about the show and what message the group wanted to put across to its audience. The show was presented and done in a way that was very understandable meaning that the audience would not have had any questions about the show but only left an effect on them which is only to think about which path they would pick as an individual which was to follow the crowd and be a statistic or do the correct thing and stay out of trouble.

I was pleased with the show and the outcome on the first day and recommended it from friends from other areas. They were amazed by the show due to not having an opportunity like that in their areas.

My friend also left a message for the group;
I loved every bit of the show, it was amazing. They all need to be signed.  All the acts were wonderful and surprising, the thought of them thinking of all of the acts on their own is mind blowing, I wish I could be part of them. I am definitely coming to next show and I am bringing more friends.
Well done guys, keep it up

We are open to sex more than fast food.

Sex? We are all aware of it

Within our society today we can see a drastic change in how open young children are to sex. We can easily identify this by looking at the rates of teenage pregnancy which is absolutely outrageous. A couple of weeks ago I remember seeing a documentary about  the shop primark making bras for children as young as 5. YES FIVE!. Looking at this makes us think deeply about society and where we live. What girl has breast at the age of 5?  We could ask are society trying to promote and persuade something else?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2053818/Is-Mad-Men-star-Kiernan-Shipk-11-growing-fast.html

This link showed a  young girl dressed up like an adult and she isn't even a teenage. In our society today we do not see the differences in clothes today. Clothes are a replica of a woman's clothing just in a smaller size hence why they are growing up too fast.

Articles have even said about their daughters begging for their parents to buy a bra due to her friends wearing a bra. So she had to go buy a bra for her daughter and she was very shocked to see that the bras being produced for young girls were very flirty and saucy. It is very bizarre and strange to see how young girls use to want barbie dolls and now they beg for bras but have nothing to use them for. Matters have now changed a lot and become a lot more serious and has led to teenage pregnancy.

It is very debatable that we are more open to sex compared to generations before today. This is very shocking and almost sickening. Everywhere we go today we see many teenagers being pregnant why is this? Could this possibly be the new fashion? Or people just don't see it as a big deal anymore.

Many young girls today are more open to pregnancy although there is still contraception, are girls more comfortable with knowing that there are other girls in the same position as them, but are the dads still staying with these girls or not?

Rates of teenage pregnancy seems to keep expanding which looks like a horror story.

When I get a chance I will start making a documentary of what people think of teenage pregnancy I will also do a questionnaire on teenage pregnancy to see peoples views on this matter.

Dale Farm Eviction- Gypsies kicked and dragged out of their own homes.

Gypsy City known as Dale farm turned into a horror story

Dale farm was taken over for 10 years by over 800 gypsies, 400 of those without license. On the 19th of October was the final eviction where half of the gypsies living in dale farm were forced to leave their own 'homes' which was on unauthorised plots, however matters got very out of hand as they attacked private houses. Police and Bailiffs did not show any remorse towards these young innocent families who were crying, pleading and begging for them to leave them.

Although they were aware that this battle was yet to arrive again they were given notices every now and then sooner to the time. In July 81 families were warned and then from August they had 28 days left before the big battle however it was extended. On the 14th of September some gypsies started leaving and selling their chalets which was said to be heart breaking as it was where some of them had grown up and felt welcomed.

Many people had supported the innocent gypsies who had just been living their lives in peace, protesters from different countries and areas came to support them. Vanessa Redgrey also made a plea saying 'they are good people with good intentions'.

Rival neighbour known as Len Gridley was angry and livid about the gypsies and had nothing but hatred for them. He seemed very passionate about getting them all off the site, he added that 'He felt like three hundred thousand pounds has been taken out his own pocket' which is why he is angry. He was also very angry at the fact that the gypsies had people protecting and supporting them he said he 'hopes they get run over tomorrow' which is absolutely ridiculous and rude. He felt that he wasn't heard or supported enough and decided that he needed to take action into his own hands where matters started getting heated and out of control he started setting fire to camps that were built up blocking ways of others getting through and him seeing, he then went to get a shot gun ready to fire however he was arrested but was let go after a few hours without any consequences apart from a warning and his tools taken away from him.

As they kept asking for a later date for their final decision they finally received it after some time which was delayed for 5 days however they were still unhappy about the situation although they knew how it was going to be as they had been though it before one said that 'we are going to be dragged out our own homes likes dogs' which was very touching to hear innocent people saying such a thing. The gypsies are s religious and calm they didn't react using violence as they said that God would not forgive them, Father Dan Mason was called to pray for them and to give them advice. He told them that they should not refer to violence and quoted a saying from Ghandi.

The main reason for the battle was that they were costing up to 18 million pounds.

As preparation for the eviction started we saw protesters build up places where they built gates to block the police and bailiffs they also built places where they were going to stay. We also saw people chaining themselves against the gates, however during the eviction tools were used on them to remove the chains.

After the delayed 5 days were over on the 12th October they were told the final decisions, which was that it would take place on the 19th of October. The eviction had started as early as 7am and was very shocking as people were harmed. People were tasered, Mayme said she had been strangled in her trailer and was told to leave, Laura fought the police as they were about to attack her home where her children were in, they broke into private properties. Protesters had taken action to set fire to caravans to scare the police aware which became a lot more frightening, protesters who had been there from 2 months before had finally left after it was said that the gypsies were given a chance to leave in peace. At the end of the eviction 34 people were arrested.

However Gridley was still not satisfied he said that he would only rejoice when they had all been removed. Final words were also said by some of the gypsies saying that 'this is a life of a gypsy and this is how it will always be' one said that 'we are seen as dirty gypsies in the nations eyes'

This documentary was very saddening to watch and concerning to know that people are suffering from this without anywhere to stay as they will be told to leave again. However is this right? It was also said that 3000 gypsies are soon to receive their own evictions.

Tragic painful death of University Student Nabila

Tragic death of a final year student.

A very sad tragic death took place at the event called 'Wickedest Wickedest' On Tuesday 18th at 9pm to Wednesday 19th at 4am. Many students had turned up to this event which was said to have 1,600 students. Even by our Blackberries we could see how many people had said "Wickedest Wickedest tonight".

At about 3.45am I had seen a few updates relating to the young girl Nabila Nanfuka, 22 which were very sad and touching.

"I pray that she is alright, How can someone possibly die like that"
"Just switched my phone on and woke up to loads of text messages and calls, I'm OK thanks for asking people"
"Tonight started good and ended bad"
Early hours in the morning on twitter at approximately 9am many people had been saying prayers for Nanfuka's family and her boyfriend. It's very shocking for someone to die like this which is absolutely disgusting, you can feel it when you step on someones feet and I am certain you can feel it when you actually step on a human being so why is it that not one person out 1,600 stopped to help her up. Could we say this was ignorance?

Delphine Ofori, Nabila's friend said that she was also in the same position but was lucky enough to have been saved by someone who had picked her up. Her other two friends were also there when they were both buried under piles of people but unfortunately they couldn't help them out as people kept rushing to catch their coaches.

Nanfuka sadly passed away a few minutes before arriving at the hospital.

May Nabila Nanfuka's soul rest in perfect peace.

Leeds and Nottingham Trent

Leeds University

On the 8th October I went to Leeds University which was very off putting for a number of reasons. I disliked the area due to it feeling like a selected area and University. Although I liked the course ' Broadcast Journalism' I just didn't feel like I would have felt comfortable there if I got into University of Leeds.

The coach journey was very long but I wasn't complaining I had time to do a number of stuff before I arrived at Leeds; I knitted, read my books and planned for my blog and sixth form and school newsletter.

Arriving at Leeds was very relaxing but it just didn't have the loosened-up feeling that I was looking for. I went to the Broadcast Journalism lecture and it was absolutely packed. I was very surprised and shocked to see the number of people that were in the lecture because I hadn't thought that people were aware of that chosen subject due to it not being made aware enough for people, although people knew about the course people are not too sure about where the course will lead you apart from working at the 'BBC' or 'Sky News'.

I didn't just want to do something that I had no interest in, something that I wasn't use to or something I would get bored of, this is why I started looking for things where I could start getting myself involved in the media for a little experience to make me prepared.

Firstly I managed to get an amazing opportunity to go and see the BBC television centre in White City where I was able to understand in depth how Journalist really work and what things they do. I then started looking for work experience at the BBC but I was very lucky to find something that matched what I wanted to do which was 'Broadcasting Journalism'. I was giving a few questions that I had to answer requiring why I wanted to be a young journalist as part of the Olympics this included filming, arranging interviews and many more, although my application was sent after the due date as I was not aware of the position I still applied and got a successful feedback. I went for the interview and saw a few other people there that were in the same position as me however I was the youngest and it felt really good to know that I had achieved something, the interview. However my interview went well but due to being in full time education I wasn't able to take 2-4 weeks off college to do a placement at the BBC so I was told to try again when I am not in full time education which is something I intend on doing. I have also had other experiences such as doing the sixth form newsletter weekly, school report, a review writer for the company Big Deal Studio 3Arts and making documentaries related to what I see in the news or around me, which is absolutely amazing, this is not compulsory but I wanted to make sure I had a feel of how the outer world was more or less like so that I was ready for the challenge.

Nottingham Trent University

On the 15th October 2011 I went to the open day that was taking place in Nottingham Trent. I particularly interested in Broadcast Journalism and the area. When I was there it felt very open and welcoming which was very lovely and was something I loved. The journey on the coach wasn’t long at all compared to Leeds which I was very pleased with.

When I was in The ‘Broadcast Journalism’ Lecture I was very intrigued by the things I was hearing as it was something I have my heart set on and was exactly how I thought about the course. I have also decided to set my first choice as Nottingham Trent as it is where I have my heart set on. Although I am scared that I will receive a conditional offer or possibly get rejected due to my predicted grades, However I will not let get to me I know that I will achieve the grades required and this is a MUST!.

I spoke to one of the Lectures after the lecture had gone on just to hear answers from someone directly rather than students who already do the course. I am very confident about this University and absolutely dedicated to achieving the grades I need to get into this University.

After Lectures I went to view accommodation to see how it was and it was pretty decent, exactly what I expected. I then looked around in the City which was very close to the University which is a plus point. I then came across a knitting shop which I was very pleased with, due to knowing that I have somewhere where I can purchase my wool from. Another good point about the City is that it felt like a community when you walked into the Shopping Mall. The people I met on the day were very nice when I approached them to take images of them for my Photography work.

I really can’t wait for when I am part of Nottingham Trent, This will be very enjoyable and satisfying.

BIG DEAL STUDIO3 ARTS - I'M NOT SLIPPING I'M JUST LIVIN REVIEW

I'M NOT SLIPPIN I'M JUST LIVIN
A group of many talented young individuals doing what they do best whether it's singing; dancing, poetry, acting etc they've got it. This inculdes all types of genres such as hip hop, streetdance, grime, dubstep and many more.
Their talents have no boundaries and is simply wonderful. This group allows young talented people to come together as one and show off their talents while feeling proud to see what they can achieve.

The target audience is very open, mainly directed at young talented people who are interested in such arts however Big Deal delivers amazing, extraordinary talents to attract youths that are not interested in such arts. Big Deal also directs at adults giving them a broad and deeper seeing into the youth talents and ability.

Whilst amongst the audience watching the preview of the final show which will be performed on 28th and 29th of October 2011, i was blown away by the confidence, talents and emotion of each performer. Although there are many other young talented people waiting to be discovered, Big Deal along with other co artists delivered something new.

The purpose of the show was just a t-shirt launch labelled 'I'm not slipping i'm just living' designed by Khanillion (aimed to give youth an insight to be among others habitats feeling safe). The main purpose was also to give other talented people confidence to show them that they can do what they have interest in hence The Big deal performing company are still looking for more talented young people to join the Big Deal dance, acting and singing crew to discover, show off and develop their talents.

At the beginning of the show, I honestly didn't know what to expect, however as each artist performed the level of talent and ability increased. All performances enabled me to see other sides of youth that we as a society don't usually get to see.

I really enjoyed every minute of the show, the energy that was given was amazing you could feel how much everyone wanted to aspire to become someone big which is very uplifting.
Its unfortunate as the public tend to underestimate the talents of the youths but what I had seen could suprise anyone. I highly recommend everyone to support these young talented people at Big Deal's 11th annual event, 'I'm Not Slippin, I'm Just Livin'. On Friday the 28th and Saturday 29th October 2011,  7.30pm at The Broadway Theatre, Barking. Tickets are £5 which are available from the box office for more information call 020 8507 5607 or email www.thebroadwaybarking .com
